In 2007, the Girls' Day took place on
26th April. It was the fourth time that the Girls’ Day was organised in cooperation with the Town of Villach and coordinated by WiTEC Austria. The scope of the day is that young girls come into contact with job opportunities that are currently not typically female. "Take your daughters to work!” was the original idea of the Girls’ Day.
WiTEC enabled about 300 girls to discover their potential future job-possibilities in the technical field by providing contacts to technology orientated companies/organisations and compiling the schedule of the event. The girls got to know 1-2 organisations where they could gain an insight into the field of work and experience job-practice.
A pilot project of Girls’ Day 2007 included a class of 11 years old girls in addition to the regular target group of 13-14 years old girls. WiTEC Austria introduced the pilot project within the framework of the Interreg IIIA project “Fachkräfte für die Wirtschaft”, whose aim it is among others to address girls and women of different age groups and introduce them to new role models and job opportunities in the technical field. The pilot project was received very well and it got a lot of positive feedback. It is planned to carry on and extend the Girls’ Day for 11 years old girls also in 2008.

It is notable that the amount of interested organisations is growing annually and the organisations are ready to put in a lot of effort to arrange an unforgettable day for the girls.
